Lovebound and Eden are not an emergency or crisis service, and no one monitors conversations in real time.

1. Eden is an AI, not an emergency service

Eden is an AI relationship guide, not a licensed therapist or medical provider. Lovebound offers education and encouragement, not therapy, counseling or medical care. In a crisis, call or text 988. If you are in danger, call 911.

Lovebound is for adults 18 and older. AI companions like Eden may not be suitable for minors.

Every conversation with Eden starts with a notice that Eden is an AI, and the app shows it again when a conversation picks up after a few hours. No one at Lovebound watches conversations as they happen, and we do not contact anyone on your behalf, including your spouse or emergency services.

2. What we check

Lovebound runs an automated safety check on what you write:

  • messages to Eden, on your own or in a conversation with your spouse;
  • weekly talks, guided conversations together, exercises and shared exercises;
  • your getting-to-know-you conversation, in the app and on the web;
  • the written parts of your Desire Map and your daily pulse notes;
  • any reason you give for a Safety Veto;
  • content reports you send us.

The check has two parts. A list of words and phrases, which runs on our own servers, looks for language that can signal thoughts of suicide or self-harm, harm to others, a partner's violence or threats, sexual coercion or assault, and controlling behavior. What you write is also sent to OpenAI, our AI provider, to check for safety concerns: an AI model reads it for the same signs, which helps with indirect wording a list can miss. We act on whichever part shows more concern. If OpenAI is unavailable, the list still runs.

It is an automated check, not a judgment by a person. It can still miss things, such as some indirect wording or languages other than English, and it sometimes shows help when nothing is wrong. We would rather show help you don't need than miss a moment you do. On the web, your answers are checked when you finish the conversation, and every page shows a short “In crisis? Call or text 988” line.

3. What happens next

  • You see help right away, and only you see it. When a message suggests immediate danger, Eden stops and shows the resources above instead of its usual reply.
  • A conversation with your spouse ends. In a weekly talk together, a guided conversation together, a joined chat or a shared exercise, the conversation ends for both of you. Your message is not added to the shared conversation, the help is shown only to you, and your spouse sees only: “This conversation has ended. You can start a one-on-one talk with Eden any time.”
  • Shared intimacy features pause. If what you wrote suggests abuse, sexual coercion, sexual assault or controlling behavior in your relationship, Lovebound pauses Covenant Rhythm, weekly talks together, guided conversations together, shared exercises and joined conversations with Eden for your couple account, and plans leave out physical intimacy. Your own conversations with Eden, weekly talks on your own, the daily pulse and your Couple Profile keep working. This safety pause is never lifted automatically (Section 4).
  • Your spouse is never told why. Shared features can pause for more than one reason, including a private pause either of you can set at any time, and every pause looks the same to your spouse (Section 4). We never tell your spouse what you wrote.

4. Pausing shared features

The shared features are Covenant Rhythm, weekly talks together, guided conversations together, shared exercises and joined conversations with Eden. While they are paused, plans leave out physical intimacy, and your own conversations with Eden, weekly talks on your own, the daily pulse and your Couple Profile keep working.

  • Either of you can pause them privately. You can pause the shared features yourself at any time, with no reason needed. Only you can resume them. Your spouse cannot.
  • Only our support team can lift a safety pause. When our safety check pauses shared features because of something one of you wrote, neither of you can resume them in the app. We lift a safety pause only when the spouse who shared the concern asks us to, and only after confirming the request from that spouse's account email. To ask, email info@bigdevelop.com from the email address on your account. A request from the other spouse does not lift it.
  • If a safety pause starts while a private pause is in place, shared features stay paused until the safety pause is lifted.
  • Every pause looks the same. Whether you paused shared features yourself, either of you paused Covenant Rhythm, or our safety check paused them, your spouse sees the same message: “This shared feature is paused for now. Eden is still here for one-on-one conversations.” It never says who paused them or why.

5. If your spouse hurts, threatens, controls or pressures you

Lovebound is designed for couples in relationships without abuse. Couples tools, including this one, are not a safe way to address abuse. Please reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline (call 1-800-799-7233 or text START to 88788) or RAINN (call 1-800-656-4673).

Sexual activity without freely given consent is abuse, including within marriage, and marital rape is a crime in every state. Scripture is never a reason to accept pressure or harm.

6. What Eden is instructed to do

  • Say it is an AI whenever asked, and never claim to be a person, a therapist or a doctor.
  • Never diagnose, treat or give medical advice, and suggest a doctor for physical or sexual health questions.
  • Treat consent as essential, honor “not tonight” every time, and never use Scripture to pressure anyone.
  • Never encourage anyone to stay in or reconcile an unsafe situation.
  • Never reveal what one spouse shared privately, including any safety concern, in anything the other spouse sees.

Eden is an AI and can make mistakes. If Eden ever gets one of these wrong, please report it in the app.

7. Anonymous counts

Some states ask operators of AI chat services to report how often they refer people to crisis help. We keep an anonymous daily count of how often safety help is shown, by feature and level. The count holds no names, accounts, couples or words. We will publish each calendar year's total on this page.

8. Report a problem

Use the Report option in the app, or email info@bigdevelop.com. Reports are never shown to your spouse. Reporting is not an emergency service: if anyone is in danger, call 911 first.

How we handle your information is described in our Privacy Policy and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
